Samdech Heng Samrin presides over a meeting on the 99th anniversary of the Women Day






National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin presided over a conservational meeting held at the national assembly in Phnom Penh on March 6 before celebrating the 99th anniversary of the Women Day in the next few days.

The meeting was attended by Cambodian parliamentary officials with 400 women from government institutions and social society in attendance.

In her speech, Women Affairs Minister H.E Ms Ing Kantha Phavy highlighted all achievement made by Cambodian women in contributing to the development of the national economy and the involvement of the nation’s social affairs.

As regards the international cooperation, she said, the royal government implemented a right policy of Gender Equity and won a seat as a member of CSW in News York.

In the executive and legislative bodies, and the local authorities, a Cambodian woman holds the post as a deputy prime minister and 30 percent of Cambodian women are village chiefs, she said.

In reply, the national assembly president appreciated the Cambodian women for their endeavor in changing the behavior toward the poverty reduction and the national development.

He also thanked the relevant institutions, the development partners and social societies for providing assistance to promoting the Gender Equity and developing the harmony of the Cambodian society
