The opening ceremony of Cambodia’s First National Forum of Climate Change



Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen presides over here on Monday the opening ceremony of Cambodia’s First National Forum of Climate Change.

In his keynote speech, Premier Techo Hun Sen said the climate change is one of serious global challenging issue that influences to the evolution process of the human civilization, in which it needs an appropriate measure and timely respond.

The forum was participated by the leaders from State ministries, relevant institutions, foreign diplomats, NGOs, development partners and civil society.

The Prime Minister’s donation distributed to 732 needy families in Siem Reap province



Siem Reap Provincial Governor H.E. Sou Phirin distributes 18 tons of rice which donated by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen to 732 needy families and typhoon Ketsana’s victims from province’s nine rural villages.

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, CMDGs and Climate Change Matter to Us



The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, Cambodia Millennium Development Goals (CMDGs) and Climate Change Matter to Us was held in Siem Ream city on Oct. 17.

The event was organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) under the presidency of Siem Reap Provincial Governor H.E. Sou Phirin with the participation of State civil servants, NGO’s representatives, teachers and students across the province.

Samdech Heng Samrin meets with Deputy Secretary General of Lao PDR’s Parliament


Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin meets here on Oct. 16 with Mr. Viseth Svengsuksa, Deputy Secretary General of Lao PDR’s Parliament.

In the meeting, Samdech Chakrei accepted the invitation from the Lao Parliament to pay a visit to Laos. The Cambodian National Assembly president is planning to go there during the upcoming ASEAN Games hosted by Laos. He also told his guest of his upcoming visit to Russia from Nov. 4 to 9.

China’s Loans for Infrastructure Improvement in Cambodia


China has agreed to provide US$853 million for physical infrastructure development in Cambodia, said Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong.

This assistance entail the responses to the 2008 and 2009 loan proposals from the Royal Government of Cambodia, H.E. Hor Namhong, also Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, told reporters last Saturday upon the arrival of a high-ranking delegation led by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen from the 10th Western China International Economy and Trade Fair (WCIETF) and a working visit in Chengdu, southwest China’s Sichuan province from Oct. 15 to 17.

With an amount of US$260 million, the 2008 proposed loans will be used to rehabilitate roads, irrigation systems, flood management and expand electricity access in rural areas and the suburban areas of Phnom Penh capital city. The remaining money from the said constructions has been considered to spend on new Chroy Changvar Bridge to reduce traffic congestion into and from the capital city through the national road number 6.

FM: Samdech Hun Sen Would Raise Border Issue at Closed-door ASEAN Meeting


Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen would raise, during the upcoming ASEAN summit in Hua Hin, Thailand, the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute in the meeting behind closed doors between the ASEAN leaders.

“In my opinion, Samdech Techo would raise the issue in the meeting behind closed doors so that Thailand keeps its promise,” Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation told a press conference here on Saturday when a Cambodian delegation led by Premier Hun Sen returned home from Sichuan, China.

Thailand has brought the ongoing border dispute up at the international forums while it had agreed with Cambodia to settle the problem by bilateral means, he underlined.

DPM Men Sam An Urges Government Officials to Help People in Remote Areas


Deputy Prime Minister Mrs. Men Sam An, referring to the Cambodian premier’s recommendations, urged the government officials to continue helping the people in remote areas, mainly flooding- and typhoon Ketsana-affected people.

The deputy prime minister made the remarks, while presiding over a cabinet session held here on Oct. 16.

In the meantime, the cabinet ministers have approved a draft of sub-degree on the management of the category and a label of “Chemical Substance”, and a draft of sub-degree on a warning message on the cigarette packets.

Cambodian Minister of Women Affairs H.E. Eung Kantha Phavy addresses the audiences while she was presiding over the official launch of the UNIFEM Flagship Publications: “Who Answer to Women? Gender and Accountability” And Succeeding the MDGs Work for all,” which was held here on Oct. 15.

Addressing the ceremony, Eung Kantha Phavi said that in order to reduce the poverty in the society, the royal government of Cambodia is continuing to implement the loan providing policy of small and medium to the women and communities for the job creation. The government has also spent around USD 7 million for employees’ vocational training.

The Mekong Regional Forum on Legal Preparedness and Regional Arrangements



The Mekong Regional Forum on Legal Preparedness and Regional Arrangements for Disaster and Communicable Disaster Emergencies was held here on Oct. 15-16 under the presidency of Cambodian Senior Minister H.E. Nhim Vanda, first vice president of Cambodian National Committee for Disaster Management with the participation of Mekong countries’ representatives Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

The forum has discussed on the general issue related to the policy preparation for disaster management and the regional public health caused by climate change and other epidemic deceases.

Cambodia Information Minister H.E. Khieu Kanharith meets here on Oct. 15 with Mr. Patrice Burel, director of Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Francophone International Organization.

During the meeting, Cambodian minister told his guest that based on the government principle, the ministry can not provide budget to any media organization so as to maintain its independence and the profession as well. On the occasion the UAE minister of Economy told the Cambodian premier that his side is ready for the investment in the agricultural field in Cambodia.

Cambodian Red Cross President Lok Chumteav Bun Rany Hun Sen receives relief aids from charitable people on Oct. 14 in Phnom Penh as follows:

-A delegation from the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Energy led by its minister H.E Suy Sem donated 120 million Riel and 50 tones of rice.

-Ms. Ngov Moch and her husband donated 10,000 USD.

- A delegation from Phnom Penh Municipality led by it Governor H.E Kep Chutema donated 100,000 USD.

H.E Keat Chhon meets with a delegation of the United Arab Emirate



A delegation of the United Arab Emirate led by its Finance Minister H.E Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori is greeted by Cambodia Deputy Prime Minister H.E Keat Chhon, Minister of Economy and Finance, at Phnom Penh International Airport on Oct. 13 for the official visit here at the invitation of H.E Keat Chhon.

The 21st meeting of the Southern French Language Media Support Foundation Committee



Cambodia Information Minister H. E Khieu Kanharith presides over the opening ceremony of the 21st meeting of the Southern French Language Media Support Foundation Committee held here on Oct. 14.

The meeting aims to strengthen the media in long term development perspective and widely open for media enterprises in the Southern area, which desire to set up concrete projects. So far, the foundation has provided supports to over 120 media organizations.

Foreign direct investment from South Korea in Cambodia last year was worth about USD 1.238 billion


H.E. Lee Kyung Soo South Korean ambassador to Cambodia told reporters at a news conference in Phnom Penh on Oct. 14 that .

In 2008, Cambodia imported good products about USD 309 million from South Korea and Cambodia exported about USD 294 million to South Korea. So far this year the two-way trade volume is worth about USD 120 million. He also said : .

Both sides Cambodia-South Korea will sign oil, energy cooperation during the upcoming official state visit of South Korea President Lee Myung-bark on October 22-23, H.E. Lee Kyung-soo added.

NA President Appeals to Japan to Widen Its Economic and Tourism Investments


Newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia Mr. Masafumi Kuroki pays a courtesy call on Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhear Chakrei Heng Samrin in Phnom Penh on Oct. 13.

On the occasion, the Japanese ambassador sought the support from Samdech Heng Samrin during his diplomatic mission fulfillment in Cambodia and pledged that he will further push for more Japanese investors to Cambodia.

In reply, Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin expressed his welcome and support to the new Japanese diplomat to Cambodia.

Samdech Hun Sen meets with Chief of the Commission for Asian Disaster Reserve Center


Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen meets here on Oct. 13 with Mr. Krasae Chana Wongse, Chief of the Commission for Asian Disaster Reserve Center.

During the meeting, Cambodian premier told his guest that due to the well-prepared and timely responded to the typhoon “Ketsana”, the volume of damage and casualties are not so big if compared to 2000 and 2001.

Regarding to the upcoming conference on the natural disaster, which is scheduled to hold in Phnom Penh, Samdech Hun Sen welcomed and supported the initiative and asked Mr. Krasae Chana Wongse to cooperate with Cambodian National Committee for Natural Disaster Management.

Cambodia Is Not Surprised to Resolve Border Dispute with Thailand at International Forums


Cambodia is not surprised at all to raise and solve the border conflict with Thailand at the regional or international forums, by either a neutral organization or the International Court of Justice in The Hague or the UN Security Council.

The statement was made here today by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Hor Namhong at a press conference.

“I sent a letter to Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya on Oct. 9, proposing Thailand, the ASEAN Chair, to include this border issue in the agenda of the upcoming ASEAN Summit,” said the Cambodian foreign minister, adding that Cambodia has not received any reply from the Thai side yet.

A workshop to launch the latest results of Population Census-2008 of Cambodia was held here on Oct. 12 under the presidency of H.E Ouk Chay, Planning Ministry’s Secretary of State with the support of UNFPA, JICA, government of Japan and the government of the Federal Republic of Germany.

According to the 2008-census statistic, Cambodia’s population has reached 13, 395,682. The census is considered as a key factor for the strategy development planning for 2009 to 2013.

Cambodian Red Cross President distribute the charitable relief to flood-hit families in Kampong Thom province





Cambodian Red Cross President Lok Chumteav Bun Rany Hun Sen accompanied by Red Cross officials distribute the charitable relief with the total cost of some US$ 71,000 to 806 flood-hit families at Sandan and Prasat Sambo districts in Kampong Thom province on Oct. 11.

The 10th Asian Conference on the Freedom of Economic Net


The 10th Asian Conference on the Freedom of Economic Net was held in Siem Reap city on Oct. 9 under the them “Overcoming the Global Financial and Economic Crisis” and presided over by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H. E Keat Chhon, minister of economy and Finance with the participation of around140 economic experts and researchers from China, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, USA, Germany, Canada, England and India.

The conference was aimed to exchange views and experiences related to the economic advantage of technology of economic market and seeking the mechanism for resolving and responding to the needs of the industrial experts, researchers and political leaders.

A Workshop on Training of Women Media Trainers Mekong Countries



A Workshop on Training of Women Media Trainers Mekong Countries which organized by the Ministry of Information was opened here this morning under the presidency of its Minister H.E. Khieu Kanharith.

The 12-day workshop (Oct.12-23), are being attended by trainees from a number of Cambodian radio and TV stations and information ministry’s officials.

Addressing the opening ceremony, H.E. Minister of Information H.E. Khieu Kanharith said that nowadays the mass media has play a very important role in dissemination all knowledge and experiences from all friendly countries.
