The groundbreaking ceremony for the school construction at Kouk Banh Choan Primary School in Phnom Penh



Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Lok Chumteav Men Sam An (right) and H.E. Mr. Masafumi Kuroki, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia press the buttons to operate the machine while they both were presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony for the school construction at Kouk Banh Choan Primary School at Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district on March 30.

The school construction Phase III consists of seven school buildings with 96 classrooms funded by the Grant Aid of the government of Japan worth ¥524 million are being built by Phnom Penh Municipality in cooperation with Daiho Corporation of Japan.

A workshop on Food Security Reserves


Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance H.E. Keat Chhon, presides over here this morning a workshop on “Food Security Reserves”.

In his keynote address, H.E. Keat Chhon said that the initiative for the urgent foodstuff assistance project made by the Royal Government of Cambodia with US$ 12.5 million in grant aid and US$ 12.5 million concessional loan from Asian Development Bank (ADB) plus US$ 5 million from the government of Cambodia were targeting to secure the poor and at risk people at 200 communes in seven provinces across the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Information Minister H.E. Khieu Kanharith receives here this morning Mr. Yury Denisovich, Hanoi-based Bureau Chief of ITAR-TASS News Agency of Russia.

During the meeting, Mr. Yury Denisovich informed Cambodian Minister of ITAR-TASS’s wish to push for the cooperation with the Ministry of Information, particularly the news and photo exchanges cooperation agreement in English service with State-run Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP).

He also told the minister of ITAR-TASS’s desire to make an exclusive interview with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

In reply, H.E. Khieu Kanharith warmly welcomed the cooperation and also agreed with ITAR-TASS proposal to make an interview with Premier Techo Hun Sen.

A Dissemination Workshop on Post Disaster Need Assessment


A Dissemination Workshop on Post Disaster Need Assessment (PDNA) for Ketsana Recovery and Reconstruction in Cambodia was held in Phnom Penh on March 30 under the auspices of H.E. Nhim Vanda, First Vice President of Cambodia’s National Committee for Natural Disaster Management.

Addressing the workshop, H.E. Nhim Vanda told the participants that Ketsana had killed 43 lives, serious injured 67 people and affected some 22,800 families in which 6,210 families were evacuated to temporary settlements.

On the occasion, the Indonesian diplomat thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for providing good cooperation and support to his mission here.

The meeting to review on the works of the drug control of the National Authority for Combating Drugs




Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen presides over here yesterday the closing ceremony of the meeting to review on the works of the drug control of the National Authority for Combating Drugs in 2009 and put forth the new tasks for 2010.

In his keynote speech, Prime Minister Hun Sen appealed to all development partners to continue to provide assistance to the National Authority for Combating Drugs aimed at reducing the danger, particularly the spread of HIV/AIDS which caused by the drugs.

Cambodian Prime Minister Presides Over the 2010 Cambodia Outlook Conference



Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen presides over here yesterday the opening of 2010 Cambodia Outlook Conference “Returning to a High Growth Economy-Policy Priorities and Action for Growth and Sustainable Development”.

Addressing the conference, Premier Techo Hun Sen said Cambodia’s growth is expected to recover in 2010, at a projected 5 percent rate while inflation has declined sharply, mainly due to lower food and fuel prices, and the exchange rate has been kept stable.
